Considered one of the most monumental moments in sports entertainment history, The Undertaker performing at “The Showcase of Immortals” has been a yearly spectacle and his undefeated streak at the event will go down as one of the most illustrious achievements in professional wrestling history.

However, with shoulder surgery back in early November to repair a torn rotator cuff, there wasn’t a sense of concern that “The Phenom” could possibly miss WrestleMania XXVII, which would mark the first time he missed the event in a decade.

According to a report from Mike Johnson, of PWInsider, Taker was actually in attendance backstage at the Friday Night SmackDown! taping this week in Birmingham, Alabama to visit his wife, Michelle McCool but the report notes that he also had his eyes on the developing storyline on that brand.

Apparently, Taker had his eyes on the new stable formed on Friday consisting of former Nexus members Wade Barrett, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel and the last ECW Champion in history, Ezekiel Jackson.

Following the events that transpired at WWE Bragging Rights during the Buried Alive contest against Kane, where The Nexus helped bury “The Deadman”; it was rumored that the company was laying the groundwork for a bout between Barrett and Taker moving into this year.

The report notes that along with Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson is also rumored as a potential opponent for The Undertaker and the company is trying to put him in the best possibly position where he isn’t expected to put on a “physically taxing” type of match like he has had with Shawn Michaels the past two years.

Just enough to get Taker to keep the streak intact for yet another year.

Much like “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels return for the Class of 2011 WWE Hall Of fame, fans in the WWE Universe should be pleased to at least get something out of The Undertaker going into WrestleMania XXVII.
