WWE wrestler Shawn Michaels said in a WWE Magazine interview that he came about as close as possible to the “perfect match” against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 25 earlier this year. “I don’t know if you can wrestle a perfect match but I have never had such a sense of peace as I did after that match with The Undertaker,” Michaels said. It was one of the few times Michaels has commented on the match, which is considered the frontrunner for Match of the Year. Michaels has remained low-key about the match, and instead has let everyone else talk up the performance by Taker and him.

Michaels having “peace” after the match helps explain Michaels leaving TV for several months and not appearing on Raw the following night to talk about the match, which he was booked to lose. It’s the opposite of his famous Summerslam 2005 match against Hulk Hogan when he cut an insider promo on Hogan the following night to “get his heat back” after he was also booked to lose. The quote from Michaels was partially storyline-driven on the “good” vs. “evil” nature of their match. Many of the other quotes for the WWE Magazine feature on wrestlers having respect for Taker were also storyline-driven.
